Artist Debbie Limoli of Somerset County N.J. turned her earliest fascination for making animal figures out of play clay into a career in sculpture. Her hands "crave clay."
Limoli said she has always been a magnet for orphaned and stray animals and has raised many creatures. Nature and animals inspire her work.
From the earliest of ages, she could take a piece of Play-Doh, twist it in her fingers and create an animal sculpture with spirit. Limoli has gone on to display her work at art shows and galleries across the Northeast. Her works are called customcrittersbydeb, and display her passion for all creatures of nature. She specializes in giving each piece a personality and a soul, yet makes them affordable. All of her creatures smile. They are clearly handmade and unique..
Debbie has lived in N.J. all of her life while raising her two sons with her husband. Her youngest son is a Princeton University class of 2012 graduate and fenced for Princeton, helping the team win two championship titles. Limoli enjoys using the black and orange Princeton colors on one-of-a kind, whimsical tigers that will remind any alumni or student of their Princeton years.
